Artist's Comments

This was done with pencil and graphite stick on paper. I think it's an improvement from my first portrait.

Most definitely :) Good penciling and shading techniques - very nicely done.

Bravo Phil. This is fantastic:!::!:

I love it. The shading is superb.

The way you capture the youth in the face is perfect.

Thank you Cody; you're so kind. Actually, he was only 3 in the photo I did this from. I don't think the drawing looks quite as young as the photo.

I used your suggestion of putting in the lines of symmetry, and I took a lot more time in getting the proportions correct. Your suggestions and comments on my first portrait were extremely helpful. Thanks again for taking the time, and thanks for the fav.

You said that this is only your second portrait right? Well, I'm really amazed, you learn fast! I cannot do portraits at all, so I think you've surpassed me already! :D

Thank you Jake. I've only recently started to draw and write poetry, but I've been doing math and computer programming for about 25 years. I know it seems very unrelated, but I think the experience has helped. I've also been getting a lot of advice and instruction from others, and I know that has helped.

Your extra patience really shows in this portrait. Your son has alotta hair for only three years though... I was thinking... he was 7 or 8 years maybe.

None the less, some people try to add facial lines to infant's face, which causes them to look older than they really are, but you handled that pretty well.

I'm glad that I could be of some assistence, Phil :)
